An examination is made of the separate stages of obtaining SnTe by the low‐temperature iodide method, involving X‐ray studies of the reaction products after each stage. It is demonstrated that the tin iodide, released at the isothermal annealing of the initial charge in the reactor, is in the form of SnT 4 , and not SnT 2 as had been considered before.
