The individual and average bond ionicities of LiAlO 2 , LiGaO 2 , LiInS 2 , LiInSe 2 and LiInTe 2 are evaluated from spectroscopic data. It is found that in these compounds the LiC VI bond is essentially ionic in nature. It is shown that the structural properties of the compounds can be understood in terms of the average bond parameters.
