The temperature distribution in the molten zone for the electron beam zone melting of molybdenum was calculated on the basis of a heat flow model of the rod. Input parameters were the measured axial electron beam density distribution at the rod surface and the supplied power. The calculated zone shape is compared with experiments. Conclusions are drawn on the magnitude of the dimensionless hydrodynamic parameters of the floating zone in dependence on the experimental conditions.
