The dissociation constant of stearic acid was determined in four different solvents, using the Fourier Transform Infrared technique. The ΔH values obtained for each solvent decrease as the solvation of stearic acid increaes. The results are relevant to the crystallization process of stearic acid from solution which may lead to different polymorphic forms depending on the different crystallization parameters.
