Irradiation‐induced change of valence of Cr 3+ ions doped in alkali sulphates

It is shown by means of investigation of both optical absorption spectra and Roentgen K   α   1‐lines of chromium doped in LiKSO 4 , LiNaSO 4 , and Li 2 SO 4 · H 2 O crystals, that X‐irradiation results in change of the impurity charge in a following way: Cr 3+ + h → Cr 4 , Cr 4+ + h → Cr 5+ .
