The spectroscopic model for the heat of formation of tetrahedrally coordinated binary compounds is extended to the ternary chalcopyrite semiconductors. The heats of formation of all A I B III C 2 IVcompounds are evaluated and compared with experimental data. Possible reasons for existing discrepancies between theory and experiment are discussed.
