Metastable zone width in salting‐out crystallization

Measurements of the metastable zone width, giving information on nucleation characteristics, have been used for crystallization by cooling until now. This approach is now adopted for salting‐out of inorganic salts from aqueous solutions by addition of an organic solvent. Theoretical description is illustrated by precipitation of magnesium sulphate using methanol and ethanol as second solvents.
