The Bridgman method was used for the growth of sizable single crystals of Y 2 Co 17 , Y 2 (Co, Fe) 17 , Y 2 (Co, Al) 17 , Y 2 (Co, Fe, Cu) 17 , Y 2 (Co, Fe) 23 , and YCo 5 . Yttrium metal was melted in Co or Co–Fe ‘container’ placed in Al 2 O 3 crucible coated with BN layer. The crystals were grown at a rate of a few millimetres per hour by lowering the crucible in the heating zone of induction furnace.
