Locally detailed electroluminescence properties of a single heterojunction (SH) light emitting diode (LED) are reported. The knowledge and consideration of such properties is of major interest when thin optical fibers are to be attached to a side face of a Fabry‐Perot structure. The virgin electroluminescence spectrum inside the active region was calculated and is taken as reference for the local emission spectrum at near‐field points at a side face. Considerable peak shifts, up to 120 meV. and intensity reductions occur for the transmitted spectrum, when proceeding from the n‐side of the junction to the p‐side.
