Abstract A series of experiments were carried out for generating defined etch pits on various sectional planes of unidirectionally solidified Cd‐Zn eutectic samples. This was done as preliminaries of real structure investigations. For that purpose chemical, electrolytic, and ion beam procedures were tested.
