Interferometry has been applied by the direct measurement of the concentration distribution around a silver single crystal growing electrochemically in a thin (100 μm thick) cell. It has been shown that due to the cell thickness the natural convections do not play any appreciable role, and the process is essentially diffusion controlled. The morphological stability of the growing crystal has been studied and electrolytic whisker formation was observed. Some preliminary results concerning a.c. effect on the diffusion field surrounding the crystal were obtained as well.
