The state‐of‐the‐art of single crystal casting is reviewed by Muhammad Huzaifa Raza and co‐workers in article number 1800177 . An in‐depth understanding of how grain selection and crystal orientation are determined is obtained. Spiral selector parameters, starter block parameters, and the withdrawal rate are investigated in particular. All these parameters are independent of the actual workpiece material.
