“Adsorption, absorption, and crystal growth”: the controlled growth of crystalline organic thin films on top of another organic solid perfectly fits with the title of the school, being a specific example of crystal growth on a solid surface, where adsorption is the fundamental process. In this contribution, after illustrating why organic epitaxial layers on organic substrates can be interesting in materials science, the basic physical principles of organic epitaxy and in particular of the growth of organic epitaxial layers on organic substrates are discussed.
