A novel complex, namely [Ru II (PPh 3 )(CO)(H)(Hbpdc)]·2MeOH ( 1 ) (H 2 bpdc = 2,2′‐bipyridyl‐5,5′‐dicarboxylic acid), has been synthesized from the reaction of H 2 bpdc with [Ru II (PPh 3 ) 3 (CO)(H) 2 ] in methanol under mild condition and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectrum, ESI mass spectrometry, and single crystal X‐ray diffraction. The structure shows that the complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P 2 1 / c with unit cell parameters a = 11.8984(13) Å, b = 16.5180(18) Å, c = 25.5322(19) Å, β = 115.302(4)°, V = 4536.6(8) Å 3 , Z = 4. This compound features a 1‐D supramolecular chain constructed via hydrogen bonds. Its photophysical properties have been investigated in MeOH solution and in the solid state at room temperature.
