SrI 2 :Eu crystals with 1.5 inch diameter were grown by the vertical Bridgman method. The melting point of SrI 2 doped with 5 at % Eu grown feedstock was determined to be 526 °C by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). XRD proved Pbca structure of SrI 2 when the SrI 2 :Eu sample was packaged with polyethylene film in air. The luminescent properties of SrI 2 :Eu crystals are presented. Under the excitation of UV light or X‐ray, the crystals exhibit a single luminescent peak centered at 435 nm. The decay time of SrI 2 :5%Eu crystal excited by UV were fitted to be 1.9 μs.
