Nanoparticles of EuBa 2 SbO 6 , a complex perovskite metal oxide were synthesized by a self‐sustained combustion method employing citric acid as the complexing agent. The powders were characterized by X‐ray diffraction, IR and Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Nanocrystals of EuBa 2 SbO 6 were sintered to 97 % of theoretical density at 1450 °C for 4 h without any sintering aid. The dielectric properties (dielectric constant, ε r and loss factor, tanδ) of the ceramics have been measured in the frequency range 50 Hz to 5 MHz at room temperature. The chemical non‐reactivity of EuBa 2 SbO 6 with YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7‐δ makes it an ideal substrate for YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7‐δ superconductors. (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
