The mean square amplitudes of lattice oscillations are investigated in ZnSiP 2 monocrystals and powders in a temperature range of 77 … 600 K and 90 … 300 K resp. A simple method developed for a sphalerite lattice is used interpreting the chalcopyrite lattice as sphalerite with a cation mass of 1/2( m Zn + m Si ). According to the theoretical expectation the dynamical amplitudes of oscillation of the P‐sublattice are smaller than those of the cationsublattice because of the mass ratio of the ions in the sublattices and the small gap between acoustical and optical phonons.
