The paper contains a generalization of previous works of the author dealing with the calculation of the interaction energy of point defects and more or less extended volume defects near a solid surface. Formulae for the interaction energy of two defects between each other and with an interface are derived. For special cases the well‐known results of B ACON for dilatation centres have been generalized to extended defects with arbitrary shape and size.
