Eight types of zircon habits are differentiated on the basis of structural and morphological considerations and their significance for the genesis of the mineral is discussed. Rate of crystallization and mobility of the constituents, including alkalinity, account for the variation of the zircon crystals from bipyramidal to prismatic.
