Cover : Recently‐developed metabolic probes of peptidoglycan incorporation, paired with advances in microscopy and quantitative image analysis, have opened the door for investigating how bacteria grow, divide, and maintain their shape. In this issue, Taylor et al. describe protocols for synthesizing and employing one of these metabolic probes, 2‐alkyne muramic acid (MurNAc‐alk), to label new peptidoglycan synthesis in Helicobacter pylori . The cover image shows a 3D structured illumination micrograph of H. pylori grown with MurNAc‐alk (yellow) and stained with fluorescent wheat germ agglutinin (blue), which labels the whole sacculus.
