In a warning issued this summer, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) urges that alcohol‐based hand sanitizers be kept out of reach of children, noting that even a small amount when swallowed can cause alcohol poisoning and death. In addition, the FDA warns that for everyone, including adults, symptoms such as headache, nausea, and dizziness can occur after applying alcohol‐based hand sanitizers to the skin. From the warning.
