The best treatment for neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) is the baby's mother. This isn't new news, but in a country in which some mothers are still sent to jail and many lose custody of their newborns simply because they were in doctor‐ordered treatment with methadone or buprenorphine, the message bears repeating.
