The first study to examine changes in volume in the anterior insula (AI) has found that these changes can be a potential marker for the trajectory of childhood major depressive disorder (MDD). Researchers found that pathological guilt, a symptom of preschool‐onset (PO) MDD, is related to AI volume reduction. Guilt processing is related to AI.
