The chairman invited Dr. David P. Earle, Editor of the Journal of Chronic Diseases , to comment. Dr. Earle pointed out that the limitations on space determine the extent to which a journal may include details of methodology in a paper. If such material is included, the author should include key words in the title and abstract which identify it for easy retrieval in a search of the literature. Furthermore, if technical material such as a statistical technique is included, it should be presented in a manner that will be clear to areader who lacks special technical background. lt may also be possible to publish symposia on various aspects of methodology as supplementary numbers to existing journals, until a journal specifically devoted to such material is established.
