Pemphigus is a disease affecting principally the epidermis and mucous membranes of man. The disease is quite distinctive clinically, histologically, and immunologically. It is of importance to discuss in this Workshop because of two interesting facets: the role played in pathogenesis by circulating autoantibodies and the huge doses of corticosteroids required in management.
