Depending on definition, there are as many as five or six clinical pharmacology units in the Federal Republic of Germany. None of these units have been fully integrated into both a clinical division and a department of clinical pharmacology. The German drug law regulates mainly the final registration of the drug development process. Various facets and applications, including the interaction of this law with health insurance, are discussed.
