The phrase safety and efficacy has become an accepted pharmacologic slogan. Whenever journal editors, sanctioning committees, advertising managers, legislative inquirers, or practicing physicians engage in the evaluation of drugs, this slogan usually serves as a label for the evidence to be presented and for the goal to be attained.
