A particular problem in the choice of experimental designs for estimating effective doses is discussed. Several alternative approaches are considered when there is some curvature in the dose‐response relationship, but a linear approximation is still to be used. An example of one method is discussed in detail when very little information is available on the dose‐response relationship prior to experimentation. The results obtained here provide an objective technique for choosing experimental designs.
