Over a period of two years the author observed 30 patients in whom contact dermatitis due to promethazine (Phenergan) skin cream was diagnosed. All showed a positive patch test to promethazine cream, and their dennatitis had developed or been aggravated after the use of the cream. In 5 cases the lesions were suggestive of a photodermatitis. Cross‐sensitization was identified by “polyvalent hypersensitivity tests” between paraphenylene diamine in 3 cases, sulfadiazine in 1 case, and chlorpromazine (Thorazine) in 3 cases. The last 3 patients also showed positive skin tests to trimeprazine. Other patients not included in these 30 had positive patch tests to promethazine skin cream but had no evidence of clinical dennatitis.
