A sensitive method for estimating phenmetrazine concentration in plasma is described. Phenmetrazine is weil absorbed, with average peak plasma levels ab out 2 hours after ingestion and a half‐Ufe in plasma of about 8 hours. A single oral dose of 75 mg. regular tablets results in significant plasma levels for over 12 hours, with highest levels at 2 and 5 hours. A sustained‐release formulation containing the same dose pro duces lower early levels without significantly altering the subsequent blood level pattern.
