Satisfactory blood pressure control was obtained in two thirds of a group of fifty hypertensive sub;ects receiving methyldopa under highly controlled conditions. It was well tolerated by most, yielded uniform effects during the course of the day, and showed sustained effectiveness during six months of therapy. Low grade lactation associated with elevated plasma prolactin levels occurred in four women and reversible abnormalities of liver function tests, in three other patients.
