As the importance of medical computer applications increases, many medical investigators will use them. This will require the medical personnel to deal with computer centers and their personnel. It, therefore, seems important for physicians and investigators to be familiar not only with computers but also with the organization and staff of biomedically oriented computer centers as well. The goals of each center as well as the environment within which it is established dictate the specifics of its organization, but certain features are common to all. Computer centers should be a dynamic force in the educational, research, and patient care activities of any medical institution. They can be so only if they are readily accessible to all personnel, both physically and administratively.
