Patients were allotted at random, after diagnosis, to receive either 200,000 I.U. or 20,000 I.U. antitoxin. The results were analyzed sequentially and the trial was stopped after 300 patients had been treated. There was no significant difference between the mortality rates in the two dosage groups.
