The American Medical Association‐United States Pharmacopeia Nomenclature Committee announces the selection of the term U. S. adopted name to designate the nonproprietary name that it selects for drugs in the joint A.M.A.‐U.S.P. program now in effect. The Committee anticipates that this term will be shortened generally to USAN as a matter of convenience but does not expect that this will give rise to misconception to the effect that the names are adopted by or have specific sanction from the Federal government.
