Bross 7 in 1952 and Armitage 2, 3 in 1954 and 1957 described in detail sequential test procedures that can be used in analysis of the results of controlled clinical trials in which two treatment regimens are being compared. Subsequent articles 4, 6 have extended the method somewhat, but the first two remain recommended reading for those interested in the application of sequential tests to the results of clinical trials.
