The cover feature shows that halide ions can bind on the surface of nanoscale, anionic metal oxide clusters and form stable complexes in solution. Such supramolecular interaction provides a convenient way to tune the properties of the clusters, as shown by their switchable catalytic activities toward the oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes upon the introduction of halide ions and water molecules.
