Gemini surfactants are used as directing agents to synthesize gold nanowires. The length of the nanowires can be tuned by varying the hydrocarbon chain lengths of the gemini surfactants, and the nanowires obtained can reach up to 4.4 μm, as reported by F. Xu et al on p. 3979.
