A FRET formalism in terms of the ratio between the rate constants for deactivation of the donor excited state by resonance energy transfer ( k t ) and by emission ( k f ) is introduced (see picture). The advantages of the approach are illustrated by FRET imaging of the donor/acceptor system consisting of co‐aggregates of the amyloid protein alpha‐synuclein labeled with the biarsenical FlAsH and quantum dots (605 nm) functionalized with alpha‐synuclein.
