Until platinum do us part: The most important step in ethanol oxidation is breaking the CC bond. This process is studied by FTIR using platinum single‐crystal stepped surfaces, which have a high catalytic activity (see picture). The active sites can be also modified by Ru, which allows determining the role of the adatom in the oxidation mechanism.
