Appearances are deceptive: In the reaction with trifluoroacetic acid, the hydrogen‐like gold atoms of Au 3 Si − rearrange to a pure gold cluster (see figure), yet they show no sign of aurophilicity. The mechanistic pathways are analysed with theoretical calculations to gain insights into this peculiar reactivity.
