Surface alloys : The chemical properties of bimetallic PdAu surface alloys are examined in terms of local properties of individual metal nanostructures during CO adsorption (see picture). These properties are quantitatively understood by electronic ligand effects, geometric ensemble effects and repulsive adsorbate–adsorbate interactions.
