Remaining case solved : Seventy years after the original paper, the last molecular Jahn–Teller problem is solved and the quest for an actual example is now open. The authors propose, as a most likely candidate, the endohedral 4d  9 or 5d  9 transition‐metal ion in a cage with icosahedral symmetry and discuss the possible applications of this ideal high‐symmetry coupling model.
