Gaseous ions: A variant of IR spectroscopy, developed to solve the structure of gaseous ions, was applied to the prototypical silyl‐substituted arenium ion, [H 3 SiC 6 H 6 ] + . The experimental IR multiphoton‐induced dissociation (IRMPD) spectrum is found to match the IR absorption features calculated for the ipso ‐protonated species (see figure).
