Electronic chequers : Mixed‐valent species were examined theoretically. The topology of the ground‐state potential‐energy surface of square mixed‐valent derivatives (see picture) can be controlled and, in this way, the choice of a concerted two‐electron transfer or consecutive single‐electron transfer may also be made.
