In recent years, there has been some interest in quasi-linear differential equations of conservation type, and much progress has been made in the case of a single space variable (see [ l ] for a survey of the literature). The results obtained here extend part of this theory to several space variables. To be more precise, we are concerned with solutions, which are defined in the region t 2 0, of the Cauchy problem
