An algorithm for the determination of Munsell Hue Value/Chroma notation from CIE x, y, Y data has been developed. A search‐and‐interpolation routine is utilized that allows for the calculation of accurate Munsell notations. This method achieves the speed of less accurate transforms without sacrificing precision or accuracy. Thus the virtues that have made the Munsell system invaluable in color‐communication applications are made available through conversion of colorimetric data. This algorithm should prove to be quite useful when good accuracy is necessary for the description of colored materials.
