Ten pairs of colour‐appearance grids, some derived experimentally and some theoretically, have been analysed using 18 sets of scaled data. The hue and colourfulness of the scaled data are compared with those values predicted by the grids. The results of the analysis suggest that Munsell Renotation data (for Munsell Value 5) can provide an adequate grid of loci of constant hue and colourfulness from which other grids, for other illuminants, can be derived. The results also support the suggestion that two types of grid are necessary to predict some data satisfactorily, depending on how those data were derived.
