A system is described which consolidates into a single unit the facilities required for color measurement, for spectrophotometric and colorimetric computations, and for formulation predictions and adjustments. This system represents a new generation of instrumentation, in which the design of the optical, mechanical, and electronic components is completely integrated with the data‐handling facilities which are required for the efficient application of colorimetry to industrial processes. It utilizes an integrating sphere with simulated daylight illumination, a wavelength‐selecting disk consisting of a continuously variable interference filter, and silicon photodetectors, On‐line data processing is executed by a high‐speed digital computer.
