Romero et al. [Color Res Appl 2006;31:391–398] have found that modeling sensors as equal‐spread Gaussians in wavelength results in improved illuminant invariance of the Marchant–Onyango daylight expression. I offer some thoughts toward an explanation based on a similar theory for blackbody and related spectra. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Col Res Appl, 32, 160, 2007
