Direct chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of graphene on insulators has shown a growing significance for fundamental research and practical applications due to the cost‐effective, transfer‐free process. The Focus Review featured on the Inside Cover aims to outline the state of the art in the development of direct CVD routes, with a special focus on recent efforts toward designed CVD growth of graphene on novel and functional insulators. More information can be found in the Focus Review by Z. Liu, Y. Zhang et al. on page 9 in Issue 1, 2016 (DOI: 10.1002/cnma.201500160).
